Elektroenergien Sistemen Operator is the independent transmission system operator of the Republic of Bulgaria, engaged in managing and operation of the country’s high-voltage electricity transmission grid. The transmission operator guarantees responsibly and professionally the secure, reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply in the country, and also manages the transit of electricity flows through the territory of Bulgaria and parallel operation with the electricity systems of the countries in Continental Europe synchronous area.

The main objective of CONGREGATE is to promote local climate action in Central and South-Eastern Europe by providing support to local and national authorities in 5 countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Croatia and the Czech Republic) for wider user engagement in two important areas of intervention – the energy efficiency of buildings and the introduction of energy cooperatives. The history of the Company dates back to 30.12.1973 when the state company Oil and Gas was registered, renamed in December 1975 to Gazosnabdiyavane.
At the beginning of 1990 the Company was renamed to Bulgargaz and by virtue of Decree of the Council of Ministers dated 12.05.1993, it was restructured to sole joint-stock company.
